This class will delve into the full potential of Japanese hand made papers and western machine made papers. Each piece will begin with a copper plate etching done in class, followed by traditional Chine-Colle. More experimental techniques will also be explored. Various papers can be collaged and adhered seamlessly together with archival wheat paste. This is a prime opportunity for those drawn to mixed media works and art on paper.

*Supply fee of $50 to be paid at first class.

Working with master kite builders learn the traditional Japanese methods of assembling hand made paper, bamboo and your own designs into beautiful and exquisite kites. This is Yoshi and Scott’s second trip to the Hui and their workshops have delighted and inspired artists around the world. Woodblock artists and kite makers have traditionally crossed over in Japanese art history. Some of the most beloved iconic images in Japanese art history are part of the repertoire of kite standards still today. This course with Master Printer and Master Kite Maker will guide students from carved woodblock image to finished kite in just three days. Hand painting and collage will be incorporated on traditional Japanese kite formats, designed by Yoshizumi. This will be an exciting course for experienced and beginning artist. In Japanese and English! Fly your creations July 5th at the opening of Kites! Kites! And More Kites!
