New York artist Swoon is now known globally as one of the most prolific street artists of the last decade which has seen an amazing boom of dynamic artists making their marks on urban culture. Her large works on paper—intricately cut paper stencils and relief-printed portraits of everyday people—have graced city walls across Europe and North America. Unlike many of her contemporaries who have come out of the tradition of street tagging and graffiti art, however, Swoon has brought a thoughtful and delicate aesthetic to her environment. The works on paper disintegrate and peel away over time, reminding the viewer that all life is ephemeral and transitory. Her work is now in major museum collections including New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
