||Brad Brown studied at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and continued on to receive his Bachelor's degree at the Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond in 1987. He currently lives and works in New York.|
He has been working meticulously for over a decade on an ever-growing body of work entitled The Look Stains. The work includes over a thousand small paintings, drawings, and collages created and reworked over a ten-year period. These pieces encompass both ends of the art-making spectrum, displaying intense deliberation as well as chance and accident. He has received much attention since he began creating these works in 1987, and has been written about in such major publications as Art in America, Flash Art and ARTnews.
Brown has participated in residency programs at the Headlands Center for the Arts in Marin County, California and at the ARCUS Project in Japan. In 1999, Brown was the recipient of the Richard C. Diebenkorn Teaching Fellowship from the San Francisco Art Institute.
